Ancient Places in Chennai – In Pursuit of Timeless Places
26.09.2016 12:14

Blame it on my conventional thinking, passion or profession; I look out for museums, historical places, excavation sites and heritage centers as the first things to visit and explore wherever I go. And I am never disappointed for I find enough of them in our country, which is rich in history, culture and heritage. My work involves a lot of traveling since I have to explore and record the existence of archaeological remains, provide advice on their conservation and ensure their protection.

I undertake various projects that engage me in traveling and visiting sites and places. And one of the most important ones I undertook was my trip to Chennai, where I visited the megalithic sites in Pallavaram. With innumerable stone mounds and coffins, these sites are known for habitations of ancient civilizations.

Any travel I make is by flight that is operated by Jet Airways. Honestly, I have developed a strong liking for this airline for the comfort and convenience it offers. Using the mobile app, I booked an Economy Class seat with Jet Airways offering Coimbatore to Chennai flights. My flight 2762, which is an ATR 72 propelled plane, is scheduled at 7.55 am.

Onboard the Jet Airways Flight

With the technology in hand, used at our liberty today, I could save enough time while traveling. I reached the Coimbatore International Airport just over one hour since I could check-in online. The aircraft, an all-Economy Class aircraft, had 68 seats. The seat, which had 4-way headrest, offered me great comforts. I could relax completely on the wide seats moving my body and stretching out my legs.

The in-flight service was exemplary with the flight attendants quite polite and friendly. They welcomed me warmly and I could even see a few being very attentive and helping elderly passengers. The food was great as they served soft idlis with sambar and spicy chutney, delicious dosa and kesari. There were quite a few varieties of dishes of South Indian and North Indian origin served on passengers’ request. However, I preferred the South Indian dish and stuck on to it while traveling.

It took one hour and twenty five minutes to reach the Chennai International Airport and I hurried through the crowd towards the exit after completing the formalities.

Staying at Lloyds Guest House, T Nagar

The sky looked blue but it seemed to be a sweltering day with the sun getting hotter. I walked to the prepaid taxi counter to book a taxi to T Nagar, where I had decided to stay at the Lloyds Guest House. The property is ideally located on the first floor of Parishad Apartments on the North Boag Road and offers easy accessibility to important places such as the Marina Beach, Kapaleeshwarar Temple, Music Academy, and Santhome Church.

I had booked a Supreme Room though the Guest House has Standard, Executive and Deluxe rooms classified for convenience. Elegantly designed with pleasing interiors and marble-tiled floorings, the rooms offered enough warmth and privacy. The heavy wooden cot and wardrobe offer luxury and comfort. The large windows, which offered a beautiful view of the surroundings, were covered with elegant, plain curtains.

The hotel offered all the basic facilities to help guests relax during the stay. Some of the facilities to mention are:

Air Conditioning
Telephone
24-hour Room Service
Parking

Though there is not much to do here, the place is ideal for anyone looking for a peaceful stay.
